IGF Guitar Circus
IGF’s innovative IGF Guitar Circus programme uses the unique power of the guitar to inspire creativity, confidence and musical engagement in schools.

As the most popular instrument among young people — thanks to its versatility, accessibility, portability and affordability — the guitar provides an inclusive pathway into music-making for students from all backgrounds.

Proven to increase instrumental participation by 66%, boost engagement with GCSE Music, after-school clubs and Music Hub activities, and create a lasting legacy through teacher CPD, the programme is transforming young people’s lives through the joy of music and composition.

What our
partners say
I am writing to express my heartfelt support for the International Guitar Foundation (IGF) and its remarkable work providing live music experiences for schools and communities across Gateshead and the wider north east Organisations like IGF play an essential role in ensuring that children, who might otherwise never have the opportunity, experience the magic of live music. Through your efforts, children in these communities have been able to engage with vibrant musical performances that not only bring immense joy but also inspire a future generation of musicians. The incredibly professional workshops delivered by IGF have left a lasting impact, sparking creativity and a love for music in children. The dedication and passion your organisation brings has undeniably enriched the lives of many and helped plant the seeds for a musically rich future in Gateshead. Thank you for your invaluable contributions.
Rob Kitchen, Head of Gateshead Music Service, North East Music Hub: North East, Gateshead, North and South Tyneside
The assembly broadened the children's music horizons and introduced them to a genre of music which they were unaware of. It also inspired our budding guitarists to persevere with their lessons, and to practise hard. It showed them what they could achieve if they were to keep up their lessons and not get disheartened when progress is slow.
Catherine Devenport, music coordinator Whitmere Primary School, Gateshead
I think the sessions were excellent and the children were inspired to sing, clap and dance along with a range of songs. They were highly engaged by the guitar playing, the singing and the choice of songs. I know they could have happily stayed for longer as they were enjoying listening to the music and being given lots of opportunities to respond as well. It would be great to host you all again in the future.
James Brown, Assistant Head, music coordinator, Windy Nook Primary, Gateshead
The pupils were completely immersed, and it was clear how much they enjoyed and appreciated her unique talent. It was an inspiring and memorable musical journey that we won’t forget — thank you, Elsie and IGF!

Performances were of exceptionally high calibre and were a fantastic opportunity for the children, young artists and visiting music teachers. The children were clearly enthralled by the very high standard of playing.
Daniel Earley, Head, Haringey Music Service, Lead of the North London Music Hub
The children absolutely loved the experience! Some even had the opportunity to join in and participate, which made it even more special. The workshop was fun, inspiring and educational and it was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and enjoyment from all the pupils.
Erin-Louise Carlon, music lead, Gonville Academy, Croydon
May I take this opportunity to echo our heartfelt thanks. Such projects not only inspire and motivate our pupils, they also feed their passion and desire to continue to learn musical instruments beyond primary school. Such projects convert our dreams into reality.
Christalla Jamil Executive Headteacher St Paul’s and All Hallows’ Church of England schools (Tottenham, Haringey)
The visits proved to be a fantastic opportunity for the children, young artists and visiting music teachers. The children were clearly enthralled by the very high standard of playing and engaged readily with the young performers in the Q & A sessions.
Nick Walker, Deputy Head of Haringey Music Education Hub
A huge THANK YOU to IGF for organising these wonderful artists, to visit our school. For many of our children, this is the only opportunity they get to experience quality live music – and it was just for them! More and more of our children are opting to continue their guitar lessons beyond our usual school offer each year, and I know that the visiting musicians demonstrating what the children could achieve in the future, plays a big part in inspiring their musical ambition. Thanks a million.
Mary Gardiner, Head Teacher, West Green Primary School
This is such a deprived area. Many children have never been across Newport let alone gone to a concert or the theatre, so it’s amazing for them to have this opportunity to listen to professional live musicians here in school.
Sara Rodda, Deputy Head
Thank you so much for such a wonderful workshop. Lucky, lucky us! The kids were really inspired! the mix of stories about birds and their sound imitated on different woodwind instruments and the guitar opened their ears in a whole new way. You could see their curiosity and creativity light up during the workshop. Thank you so much again to you and Francisco.
